Photoshop Action Shortcut Key Tip

I have a few digital scrapbooking actions for Photoshop that require pushing the play button over and over again and a couple I’ve written myself that are just shortcuts that I forgot to assign a keyboard shortcut to. But I’m a major keyboard shortcut girl. If there’s a keyboard way to do something, I use that rather than the menus and buttons. So I’ve worked out a quick way to assign a shortcut to run my favorite actions. This tip only works in Photoshop, not Elements, to my knowledge because it requires the ability to record actions and not just run them.

First make sure you are set up to DO whatever the action requires. You are going to actually be running the action you want to make a shortcut for. Next, in the actions palette, choose “new action” – it’s in the fly-out menu I’ve circled in this screenshot.

actions1

In the next menu, title the action so you’ll know what it does and put it in the group for the action set. Then pick a function key to run it quickly. It can be a function key or a combo with SHIFT or CTRL

actions2

Then hit the record button. Now the ONLY step you will record is hitting the play button for the action you want the shortcut for. So go in your actions palette and play that action while you are recording. When the action completes, hit the stop button to finish recording. Now in the future, just hit the function key you chose to quickly run that action!

I hope this helps you!

Digitals Quickies Challenge

Have you ever seen the quickies challenge at Digitals? It’s pretty cool. You get a special price on one of two digital scrapbook kits (only $3.00) and then make a quickpage with it (instructions included in the forum.) At the end of the month, the challenge hostess sends out a copy of all the quickpages made with that kit to everyone who participated. This month, one of my favorite kits is available to use for this challenge. You can get is for a special price or use it if you’ve already purchased it, of course. My featured kit is Earthy:

and the other kit is Falling by SarahB

I hope you can play along with this challenge in the forum at Digitals with us!

Jury Duty

I'm so sorry for the lack of interesting posts in the past week and a half. I started jury duty on November 8 and I haven't finished yet. I've been working a tiny bit on some goodies for December but don't have enough for a sneek peek yet. The majority of it has been for a run in the daily download at Digitals in the beginning of December and the posting bonus for the December card challenge. If you haven't joined either of my challenges yet, I hope you can! It's fun to make cards and it's a quick, satisfying project that can be completed in less than an hour. A digital card can be used over and over again so if you play along with me, you will be able to assemble a whole collection of cards!

Play along at Digitals or DigiScrapObsession.

Digital Scrapbooking Weekend Sale, Freebie

It’s an exciting weekend!  I hope you’re ready to shop, I know I am!

Here’s what’s going on in my stores.

DIGITALS

2010DSD

SCRAPDISH

dsd-sale

Everything in both my stores is 30% off.  Are you wondering why it’s not higher like 50% or more? Basically it’s because my kits are already priced to move (mostly $4.99) so that puts my sale kits at $3.49, the same as 50% off if they were $6.99 to start with, see?

But I will sweeten the deal for ya’ because I KNOW you’re looking for the best deal.  You can find a ScrapDish coupon on my facebook page (hit the LIKE button while you’re there) or you can get one by following me on Twitter.  (I will message you).  Or subscribe via email to this blog and you’ll get one in your inbox.  It’s good for $3.00 off a $5.99 order (maybe you’ve been waiting to get some ribbon templates!!??).  That’s 65% off with the 30% sale and coupon!

ALSO, I have my newest kit on DOORBUSTER special, this weekend only for $1.99. This buy is excluded from the 30% off, but not the coupon.

And on to the freebie!

I am pleased to present a wonderful quickpage freebie, made by the talented Casey Thompson, who is guesting on my CT this month.  She did a beautiful job of creating a page with ample journaling space for you to write about what your hero taught you.  Her layout is a heartfelt tribute to her own Daddy.  What did your hero teach you?

You can write about it when you download this free QP, made with my Determination kit.

Let’s Get Small

One of the great things about digital scrapping is the ability to resize your elements to suit your design needs on digital scrapbook pages and projects. I almost always resize my elements down to make cards (papers too). Today I want to show you a great example of less is more when it comes to resizing. Or as I saw someone post in the forums, when in doubt, make it smaller.

Here is a fabulous digital scrapbook layout by new CT member Kimberly Wynn aka bansgran using my Cotton Candy Machine kit.  Aside from the fact that this page has GREAT use of negative space, let’s look at how she used some of the elements on her page.

small2

Look at that cute little cluster of flower, badge and butterfly on the lower right frame.  Isn’t that delicate?  But look how much larger these items were in my kit (shown on a 12x12 background)

small1

At regular size, they may have overpowered the photos but when they are reduced and clustered, they make add a fabulous little punch to the page.

Some pages “want” a bunch of layers and clusters but sometimes just a little bit of embellishing goes a long way. I hope you like this idea and get a chance to try it soon!
